The university emphasized that it remains committed to maintaining academic activities and ensuring that students’ studies are not disrupted.

The ASUU UNILAG chapter, during a meeting on Tuesday, had directed lecturers to stop work starting Wednesday, March 11, due to incomplete payment of salaries and allowances for January and February.

These payments include the full Consolidated Salary Structure for Academics, the Consolidated Academic Teaching Allowance, and Professorial Allowance. ASUU’s chairman, Prof. Idou Keinde, stated that lecturers would not return to work until all outstanding payments were fully settled.

In response, UNILAG’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, assured the public that the university continues to prioritise staff welfare and is in ongoing dialogue with ASUU to address these financial concerns.

She highlighted that the university is particularly focused on resolving unpaid teaching allowances while following the proper administrative procedures.

UNILAG also confirmed that all scheduled examinations would proceed on Wednesday as planned, emphasising the importance of minimizing disruption to students’ academic progress.

The university pointed out that this period is critical for students preparing for internships, the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme, and future admission into professional programs such as Law School.

For any exams that had to be postponed, new arrangements have been made, and remaining examinations are set to resume from Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The university management urged students, staff, and the wider university community to remain calm, stay focused on academic activities, and trust that discussions with ASUU are ongoing to find a satisfactory resolution for all parties involved.
